Hugo Brooks
I’m Hugo Brooks, a 13-year-old competitive figure skater, and skating has been my passion since I first watched an ice show at my local arena in 2019. That moment sparked a love for the sport that has only grown stronger with each passing year. Last season, I was incredibly proud to be ranked 1st in the UK for my age and skating level—one of my biggest achievements so far. Right now, I’m training hard to secure a place at the British Championships and hope to qualify for 2025 and onwards , a major milestone in my competitive career.
I train at Blackpool and Blackburn Ice Arenas under the expert guidance of Katie Stainsby, a former Dancing on Ice pro , and Oscar Peter, a former Swiss National Champion and World competitor in free and ice dance . Their experience, passion, and belief in me have pushed me to improve my skills, refine my artistry, and set even bigger goals. Each summer, I also attend an elite skating camp in Switzerland, where last year, I had the incredible honour of being selected to perform in the final gala presentation. That experience made me even more determined to keep improving and reach new heights in the sport.
I compete in free skating and enjoy ice dance with my best friend and partner Darcy with the possibility of competing together in future, which gives me the best of both worlds. In singles, I challenge myself to be my absolute best, focusing on technique, artistry, and pushing my own limits. In ice Dance, I skate alongside my partner, Darcy, and together, we create something truly special on the ice—combining trust, teamwork, and storytelling which is from our hearts and happiness.
Beyond competing, I love to perform. I’ve taken part in numerous gala performances at Blackpool Ice Arena and have been cast in several ice shows, including:
•Peter Pan on Ice (2022)
•Alice Through the LookGlass on Ice (2023)
•Snow White: A Magical Adventure on Ice (2024)
One of the most exciting moments of my skating career is coming up later this year, as I have been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform on Torvill and Dean’s final-ever tour. Growing up, they have been two of my biggest inspirations, and I even did a school project on them, researching their journey from young skaters to Olympic legends. The chance to share the ice with my heroes is beyond anything I ever imagined, and I feel incredibly honoured to be a part of this historic moment in skating.

Darcy Walshaw
My love of ice skating started when I watched a family friend performing on Dancing on Ice and thought, ‘I want to do that!’
I pestered my parents for lessons, and at the age of 6 years old I started the Skate UK Programme, and I’ve barely stepped off the ice since.
As I progressed to National levels I began to be privately coached by Katie Stainsby and Oscar Peter, at Blackpool Ice Arena.
I remember waiting for my first private lesson when I saw Katie coaching some pair skaters. She told me that it’s harder to find boys in figure skating, which I thought was pretty crazy!
Luckily, that’s when I met Hugo. We hit it off straight away, instantly becoming friends both on and off the ice, and we’ve been skating together ever since.
I love performing in shows, but competing is just as exciting for me. I gained a place on the podium after my very first competition and, have since proved myself to be a successful competitor! I also perform in our rink’s biannual skating Galas, where I skate in groups, pairs with Hugo, or even going solo.
For the past three years, I’ve auditioned and been cast in the Christmas shows produced by Blackpool Ice Drome Children’s Association (BIDCA). I’ve played principal, and stand out roles, in their productions including Peter Pan, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Snow White performed at Blackpool Ice Arena; the world’s oldest purpose-built ice theatre, and home to the iconic Hot Ice show!
I’ve also been lucky enough to attend some incredible ice-skating camps, including Disney on Ice, the International School of Skating, and most recently the Summer Skating camp in Switzerland.
On top of all that, I’m a proud ambassador for Thuono, an Italian brand of ice skating apparel, which I get to wear for training, both on and off the ice.
When I am not at the rink I love spending time with my family, my dog and guinea pig. I’m also a keen saxophonist and have regular lessons after school. My favourite subject at school has to be maths, double maths is even better!
Being part of Torvill and Deans 50th Anniversary ‘Our Last Dance’ tour feels like a dream come true, and I’m beyond excited and honoured to have the chance to play the role of ‘young’ Jayne Torvill… Epic skates to fill!
Thank you to everyone involved who made this opportunity possible. I cannot wait and will forever treasure the memories!

Dan Whiston
Dan first put on a pair of ice skates at the age of seven in his hometown of Blackpool, encouraged by his Mum and Dad to follow in his sister’s footsteps. Over the last few years Dan has had some incredible opportunities including a Royal Variety performance for King Charles and Queen Camilla, performing in the Olympic Ceremonies and skating alongside Andrea Bocelli in Italy.
Today, Dan is best known for ITV’s Dancing On Ice, taking part as a professional skater partnering many well-known celebrities for over a decade. He is the most decorated professional on the popular ITV show, winning Dancing on Ice three times, alongside his celebrity partners Gaynor Faye, Hayley Tamaddon and Beth Tweddle.

Most recently Dan choreographed the 80th anniversary of the world-famous Holiday On Ice show ‘No Limits’ alongside Christopher Dean and directed by Kim Gavin.
Dan is honoured to have been asked to be the Associate Choreographer of Torvill and Dean’s ‘Our Last Dance’ and is also very excited to be performing alongside Jayne and Chris for their final performance.
